Well what can I say. I’ve finally gone and done it and that it is a Triton. I’ve long held a want for a classic bike and it’s always been a circa 1967 T120 Bonneville. However I came across (can’t remember how, you know what it’s like when Google suggests something 🤔) a Triton which we went to look at near Scarborough UK whilst having a week up in Yorkshire (big county Yorkshire. We were 80 odd miles away 😖).
Hilary was unusually quite impressed with it so a deposit paid and a round trip from Basingstoke a week later and it was now in my garage.
It would seem the bike was built around 1994 as it came with 5 MOTs which by pure coincidence were from bike shop in Normandy (near Aldershot). The coincidence is that my NC30 came from the same shop. Weird.
From 1994 until today it’s only done around 840 miles and is built from a 1955 Triumph T110 engine and a 1960 Norton slim frame. The engine is a 9 stud and has twin carburettors.
Having had a look over I found the tyres were well beyond their useful date so I’ve replaced them the front tyre now being slightly bigger fouled on the mudguard so I had to extend the brackets.
A more major problem found was that, I imagine at some point the oil filler cap had probably been cross threaded and ultimately destroyed the thread so it was stuck on with filler which considering the quality of the machine was a surprise.
To sort this out I got a piece of 50mm diameter alloy tube and 3mm alloy plate form my stock, cut a thread which luckily was 1.5mm pitch and tig welded the pieces together. I ground the top of the tank flush, inserted rivnuts and bolted the neck on. All this meant I had to modify the shelf that the tank sits on which was a right pain. 😐
